The National Institutes for the Humanities (NIHU) focuses on Japan-related materials scattered across Europe and North America for which, despite their academic and social significance, comprehensive studies have been insufficient. Aiming to research and study such materials in partnership with domestic and international universities as well as the institutions that preserve them, NIHU is engaged in the following three projects.

A Project coordination meeting (Suishinkaigi) has been launched within the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken) as a foothold for leading and managing these three projects. The Committee will engage in “Coordination between Projects to Make Effective Use of Research Results (CPMEURR),” the goal of which is to align the three projects and carry out both within Japan and overseas interdisciplinary studies and seminars on Japan-related materials.
